Me and My mom in 2005

Dear Breast Cancer,

On May 5, 2009 you messed with the wrong woman.

You may think you won because you took another light from this world.

You may think you won because you stole another mom.

You may think you won because you robbed another grandmother of the chance to hold her first grandchild.

You may think you won because you turned another daughter’s life upside down.

But here’s the thing, while you pat yourself on your back and claimed another triumph I channeled my anger.  I channeled my grief.  I channeled every ounce of strength I had and decided that you would not win.  You could not win.

Sure, there’s not much I can do alone.  Sure, I’m only one woman, one daughter.  But this woman, this daughter has found a way to fight back. This woman, this daughter has found her army!

You may have won the battle, but hear this Breast Cancer — I’m going to the win the war!

I am walking in the 2012 DC 3-Day in memory of my mom, Linda Jacobus.
