It all started with getting dumped.  But not the kind of dumped you’re thinking of.

Before the 2007 Breast Cancer 3-Day, my sister Julie called me up and asked for a donation.  She told me that she was going to be walking 60 miles in the 3-Day and that she had to raise $2200 (that’s what the minimum was that year).  I asked her more details about the walk.  I wanted to know a lot about it and when she finished answering my questions, I asked one more, “So, can I join your team?”

She said yes (she was my sister after all) and we got to fund raising and putting more people on the team.  A couple of months later Julie told me that she was moving to Holland with her family and that she wouldn’t be able to do the walk.  I continued the walk and every year since then Julie has walked with me.

Maybe not the big flashing lights you were looking for in an introduction, but that will do.  My name is John Welsh and this year I am walking in my fourth and fifth 3-Day for the Cure walks.  There are a lot of things that I am doing this year that are a change from the past three years that I have walked, including:

  • Walking in two events (Dallas and Boston)
  • Dying my hair pink
  • Wearing pink bras during the walk
  • Walking with a team of people that I didn’t know before the walk
  • Being an Energizer® Keep Going® Blogger

That last one I’m really excited about.  Energizer has really stepped up in trying to raise awareness by having a blogger selected for each city, this in addition to all the support that they have already given to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is pretty darn awesome.

Ok, so that’s about me, here’s the recent happenings on 60miles3days.com:

As my new years resolution I have decided that I want to take at least 3,120,000 steps this year.  Why that much?  I calculated it at 60,000 steps a w …
